This policy explains how City Rentals Australia Pty Ltd, ABN 50 663 432 942, trading as Legacy Motors ("we", "us"), handles personal information. We are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
We collect personal information you give us directly, including:
- your name, mobile number, email address and postcode when you enter a promotion or make an enquiry;
- information you provide when buying, selling or trading a vehicle with us, which may include identity documents, licence details and finance information;
- records of your contact with us, such as emails, messages and call notes.
When you use our website we may also collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, through cookies and similar technologies.
Why we collect it
We use personal information to:
- run promotions and competitions, including contacting entrants and issuing prizes and vouchers;
- respond to enquiries and provide our services;
- meet our legal obligations, including those relating to motor dealing and vehicle transfer;
- send you marketing about our vehicles, offers and events, where you have agreed to receive it.
Every marketing message we send includes a way to opt out. If you opt out we will stop sending marketing, though we may still contact you about something you have specifically asked for, such as a promotion you entered.
Who we share it with
We may share personal information with service providers who help us operate, including our customer relationship platform, email and SMS providers, advertising platforms and IT suppliers. They may only use it to provide those services to us.
We may also share information where we are required or permitted by law, or with financiers and government agencies where necessary to complete a vehicle sale or transfer.
Some of these providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with this policy.
Advertising platforms
We advertise on platforms including Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. These platforms may set cookies or receive information about your interaction with our ads and website so we can measure performance and show relevant advertising. We may also provide contact details to these platforms in hashed form to build advertising audiences. You can manage ad preferences in your account settings on each platform.
How we keep it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as required by law. Where it is no longer needed we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us at the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period. If we refuse a request we will tell you why.
Complaints
